Just another manic Sunday

Updated: Jul 12, 2018

I have been in Dubai for a little over a week now, and man is it HOT.

A few things I have learned:

1. Sundays are Mondays and church is on Fridays.

2. It is very important to wear comfortable shoes. Public transport is very efficient and easy to use, but when using it you will walk a LOT. There will also be a great deal of standing. Also, the malls are huge which means more walking.

3. Talking about public transport: having the number of the bus you have to take is not enough. You also have to know WHICH DIRECTION the bus is going in. Unless you want to waste an hour to see all the factories Dubai has to offer.

4. When searching for apartments, be prepared to deal with a lot of really unprofessional people. Some estate agents were really nice, but it was mostly a struggle. (Taking a 20 minute drive in a taxi ($$) to get to a viewing, only to find out the agent never informed the building security that you were coming and the apartments you want to look at are locked. Prices being negotiable, then not negotiable, then negotiable, then not negotiable again. Agents postponing appointments 2 minutes before the time, then being 20 minutes late to the postponed time.)

5. Standing in the shade does not help. The heat comes from EVERYWHERE. It's like being in a huge solar cooker. Luckily EVERYTHING is airconditioned so just make sure you know where you want to go before you get outside, and get there quickly.

6. Dirham coins might seem a bit confusing as they don't have any numbers on them. The big one with the genie lamp is one Dirham. The one with the straight edges and the buildings is 50 cents and the small one with the antelope is 25 cents. Make sure to always have some coins with you, as taxi drivers don't always have change.

7. Shake Shack burgers are incredible. I don't know what they put in those buns but they are AMAZING. Also, they look EXACTLY like the picture.
